New Year, new brew! The annual Summer Sizzler Competition has returned.  The Down East Alers will once again be hosting this event in the illustrious eastern part of North Carolina.  Our competition is a AHA/BJCP sanctioned event and apart of the Southeastern Homebrewers Association 2017 Schedule.  The event will follow the 2015 BJCP Guidelines.  We look forward to bring this competition back and seeing everyone again!

Important Dates

 

Registration opens on Sunday, April 16th

 

Registration Closes on Saturday, May 13th

 

All entries must be received by the cellar-master or delivered to the pickup sites listed below by Thursday, May 18th. No late entries will be accepted

 

Entry pickup by DEA personnel at the designated pick up sites will be Friday, May 19th and Saturday, May 20th

Beer only--No meads & ciders

 

Maximum of 12 entries per brewer

 

Brewers may only submit 1 entry per sub-category

 

200 Entry Limit Overall

 

 

How to Enter

 

Register

 

All entries must be received by the cellar-master or delivered to pickup sites listed below by Thursday, May 18th.  Pickup Site can be found on registration page. CLICK HERE  to register for the Summer Sizzler

 

We are using Beer Scores for this event.  Please use it to enter and register your brews, pay entry fees and print off labels

 

Judging

 

Please register to Judge or Steward online through the Beer Scores competition website.  Having a solid core of judges brings illuminating palates, brewing expertise and wisdom of past imbibing together to provide brewers with feedback to enhance their skill-set.  Apprentice Judges are welcome and will be paired with experienced Judges

 

Judge and Steward experience points will be reported to the BJCP

 

Judges and Stewards are expected to arrive in time for competition briefings starting at 8:30 am

 

Judging will begin at 9:00 am

 

Judges and Stewards will be served breakfast and lunch

 

Accommodations for traveling judges can be arranged, please contact the registrar or event coordinator for more details

 

Entry Fee

 

Entry Fee is $7 for each entry

 

Maximum of 12 entries per brewer

 

All fees will be paid via the PayPal link on the competition registration website

 

Beer Entries

 

Each bottle must be brown or green glass, 12 oz preferable

 

Bottles should be free of raised lettering

 

Bottle caps should be gold, black, or silver. Any non-standard caps must have identifying marks blackened out with a permanent marker

 

No flip-top bottles or growlers, please

 

Bottles not meeting these guidelines will be disqualified, and ineligible for award. Disqualified bottles may be judged at the discretion of the Organizer

 

Bottle Labels – Each bottle will require a label that must be inserted into plastic bags and attached to bottles with rubber bands
